UN Committee Calls On Belarusian Authorities To Urgently Provide Medical Care To Palina Sharenda-Panasiuk

The Committee started consideration of her case.

The UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women began to consider the situation around activist of the European Belarus civil campaign, political prisoner Palina Sharendo-Panasiuk. The Committee called on the Belarusian authorities to urgently provide medical assistance to the prisoner of conscience. Her husband, the European Belarus activist Andrei Sharenda, reported this to Charter97.org.

“After reviewing your submissions, the Committee, acting through its Working Group on Individual Communications, has decided to issue a request for interim measures under article 5 of the Optional Protocol, in which the State party has been requested to take urgent measures to provide a comprehensive and appropriate medical care to Ms. Palina Sharenda-Panasiuk, and to ensure that her life, physical and mental integrity are safeguarded while her case is under consideration by the Committee,” stated in the message.
