Doctors In Belarus Refusing To Take Swabs Of Patients With Coronavirus Symptoms

Are the authorities hiding a new outbreak of the epidemic?

Since September, the situation with the coronavirus in Belarus has dramatically aggravated, but nobody cares about the patients in medical institutions. An employee of one of the polyclinics in Minsk, who asked not to be named, informed Charter97.org about it.

"I work in a polyclinic and every day I see people coming with complaints of fever, cough, weakness. But doctors don't even take their swabs, they just prescribe antibiotics and let them go home. They say that there is no point in testing, because nothing will change anyway. The management just doesn't want to deal with it," she said.

According to the polyclinic worker, the number of suspected cases of coronavirus has increased significantly recently. She believes that this is due to the beginning of the school year and the onset of autumn.

"People have started getting sick more often, but no one knows how many of them are actually infected with the coronavirus. After all, official statistics do not reflect the real picture. I myself was sick at the end of August, I had a temperature of 38 degrees and a strong cough. But the doctor said it was an acute respiratory infection and wouldn't take my swab. I think I got coronavirus, but no one has confirmed it," she said.

The employee of the polyclinic urged people to be careful and follow precautionary measures: wear masks, avoid crowds of people, wash hands.
