Reznikov: Announcement Of Mobilization In Belarus Will Become Lukashenka's End

Belarusians may play a "cruel joke" with the dictator.

The question of Belarus possibly joining the war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine is still open, and the Ministry of Defence is mindful of it. Local troops have been conducting exercises near the border with Ukraine for more than half a year, but declaring mobilisation, following Russia's example, is unlikely there. Dictator Lukashenka understands the risk of such a decision and believes it could badly shake his position or even deprive him of power. This was stated by Ukrainian Defence Minister Oleksiy Reznikov in his commentary to Suspilne.

The head of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry believes that Lukashenka does not want to risk mobilization, but is trying to maintain the appearance of supporting Putin, on whom he fully depends.

"There is a risk, but I wouldn't exceed its level. It seems to me more that the ruler of Belarus is looking for a balance. On the one hand, he needs to show his patron that he is somehow with him. But on the other hand, Lukashenka understands that this may be his ultimate end," said Reznikov.

The Minister noted that the motivation of the Belarusians to join the war against the Ukrainians is incomprehensible and could play a cruel joke on Lukashenka and Putin.

"I don't understand what should motivate the Belarusians to deliberately go to war with Ukraine, to kill and die for the unknown reasons. Even if they are officers who are under oath to follow orders and supposedly go on the attack with their units. And who can guarantee that those units, when they cross the Belarusian border, will not raise their hands, lay down their arms and say 'Ukrainians, we are not your enemies'?
