The Population Of Minsk Declined For The First Time Since 1944

  • 12.06.2021, 18:15

Two reasons are given.

Since the liberation of Minsk from the Nazis in 1944, due to migration from all over the country, the population of the capital has always grown, at a more or less high rate, but, even in 1994, the increase, although it dropped to only one hundred people, remained positive.

But last year, something, that was observed only 6 times (the result of wars) in the last 125 years of the history of the city, happened - a decrease in population; last year, Minsk also began to die out. This is, firstly, the result of the coronavirus and the government's policy to combat the pandemic, and secondly, because of the massive emigration provoked by the regime.
