In an interview with the German newspaper of Süddeutsche Zeitung, Nobel Prize-winning writer Svetlana Alexievich announced a book about the events in Belarus after the presidential election in 2020. She not only meets with people and records their stories, but also receives their memoirs by mail.

Alexievich told German reporters that, in her view, Belarusians live "between two dangers - Lukashenka and Russia." "We want to create an independent, prosperous country, - the Belarusian writer says. - But how can we do that? I am a writer, not a politician; in my book I am looking for an answer to this question."

Svetlana Alexievich speaks about the Belarusian protests and emphasizes their peaceful nature, calling them "a kind of non-violent revolution". "We wanted to achieve this [victory] without shedding blood, - the writer says. - It was an idealistic plan."

Alexievich has been living in Germany since September 2020.
