‘We Have No Right To Finance Regime’: Mayor Of Lviv Refuses To Purchase Belarusian Buses

  • 6.04.2021, 14:16

The politician has commented on his decision.

The Belarusian company MAZ won the competitive tender announced by the European Investment Bank for the purchase of 100 buses for the city of Lviv, since they offered the lowest price. However, due to the political situation in Belarus, Lviv wants to recognize this tender procedure invalid, and announce a new one.

Mayor of Lviv Andriy Sadovyi wrote about this on Facebook.

— There will be no long foreword here.

Lviv refuses to buy 100 Belarusian MAZ buses.

I said before that the Belarusian company won the tender procedure, held by the European Investment Bank.

Why did the MAZ win?

It’s very simple — Belarus supports its manufacturer, so they offered the lowest price and surpassed the Ukrainian competitors.

We are asking the European Investment Bank to hold a competitive tender repeatedly.

Why?

The revolution and the development of a democratic society is up to the Belarusian people.

However, we have no right to finance the “regime”.

At the end of the day, we have Ukrainian manufacturers that also need support.

If we don’t invest in the development of our own machine-building industry, how can this branch possibly develop?

This is a rhetorical question.

I am turning to the Cabinet of Ministers with a request to introduce “protection tariffs”, or a fee for purchasing public transportation vehicles abroad. Since they can be purchased in Ukraine.

I am asking the mayors of Ukrainian cities, who are facing the same choice today, to choose Ukrainian manufacturers.
