Belarus Imposed Restrictions On ATM Withdrawals

The new rules have been adopted by the National Bank.

InfoBank.by reports: the National Bank of Belarus has adopted new rules, and now an operation when a client withdraws 200 basic units (5,800 rubles) of cash from an ATM during a week is considered suspicious.

Previously, the rules were different. According to Instruction No. 818 of December 24, 2014, a transaction was considered suspicious if a customer withdrew 500 basic units from a foreign bank card:

67.48. a single or repeated withdrawal of cash during the analyzed periodin an amount equal to or exceeding 500 basic units from an ATM on the territory of the Republic of Belarus, using a bank payment card issued by a non-resident bank.

Now, according to the decree № 82 of March 31, 2021, this value has been reduced from 500 basic units to 200 basic units. At the same time, the "analyzed period" was limited to one week:

"To establish that banks shall identify in the activities of customers financial transactions that meet the criteria to identify suspicious financial transactions [...] for the analyzed period - one calendar week, and when the amount of financial transactions for the analyzed period equals or exceeds 200 basic units".
