The dictator has dreamed of finding rich oil deposits in Belarus for many years.

In 2022, Belorusneft together with the Research Center for Geology plans to carry out about 638 square kilometers of 3D seismic works in the Naroulia and Khoiniki districts, neft.by reports. This territory belongs to the Radomlia subsoil area. The Palessie State Radiation-Ecological Reserve is located within it. Its activities are coordinated by the Department for Elimination of the Consequences of the Catastrophe at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Belarus.

Lukashenka has been dreaming for years that the country might suddenly discover rich oil deposits.

In 2011, he said: "I still think we have oil somewhere. But if there is oil, then it cannot be that somewhere it does not burst with natural gas. I hope so."

In 2015, he noted: "I just do not believe that we do not have large volumes of oil and that there is no natural gas in our depths. A lot of oil and natural gas, as well as valuable metals, are produced in such territories in Russia and other countries, which creates the basis for the prosperity and stability of any economy of any state."
