Volha Shimanskaya refused to participate in the selection for Eurovision.

The Belarusian singer Volha Shimanskaya, aka Napoli, who has made her way to the final of the national selection for Eurovision for seven years in a row, will not participate this year. This was announced on his Facebook page by her producer Aliaksandr Slutski.

- We decided not to apply for the Belarusian selection this year, although we have a pretty good song. First, it is meaningless because of our political position against violence, lawlessness (...). I don't think they would even consider our application. Secondly, if now we managed to win the selection by some miracle, we would never agree to represent the country under the red-green flag. (...). Thirdly, [in the current situation] to take part in (...) such events is simply blasphemous, - wrote Slutski.

As tut.by notes, the national selection for Eurovision this year continues until January 31. Both solo performers and bands (no more than 6 people) are invited to participate in the selection. They can be Belarusian and foreign artists from 16 years old.

Last year, the organizers took into account the unsuccessful experience of the Ukrainian singer Alekseev, who represented our country at Eurovision in 2018. Therefore, only citizens of Belarus, foreigners, and stateless persons who permanently reside in Belarus were allowed to participate in the selection-2020. This year, foreigners again received the right to participate in the selection.
