Father of Imprisoned Yauhen Afnahel Died

The lawyer of the coordinator of the civil campaign European Belarus addressed the investigation with a request to allow the political prisoner to attend the funeral.

Today it became known that Ihar Yauhenjevich Afnahel, the father of the coordinator of the civil campaign European Belarus Yauhen Afnahel, died at the age of 83.

Ihar Yauhenjevich worked for 30 years in the editorial office of the Belarusian Soviet Encyclopedia and was a famous Belarusian amateur marathon runner. Starting running in 1968, he ran four equators, more than 160,000 kilometers, and was a member of the Amatar Runners' Club.

His son, Yauhen Afnahel, has been imprisoned since September 2020 for taking part in protests against electoral fraud. His lawyer asked the investigation to allow the political prisoner to attend his father's funeral.
