The United States, Britain, and Canada plan to impose sanctions against Lukashenka's regime for rigging the August 9 elections and violence against peaceful protesters that began after the vote. Reuters reported this with reference to six sources.

At the same time, four agency sources said that the sanctions could be announced this Friday, September 25.

As the website Charter97.org reported, the USA, Great Britain, and Canada did not recognize Lukashenka as legitimate.
