Anatol Liabedzka: Protests Will Only Grow

  • 22.09.2020, 8:42

Lukashenka is losing control over the situation in the country.

European Dialogue Center head Anatol Liabedzka says that mass demonstrations, which take place every Sunday in Minsk, show that Aliaksandr Lukashenka is losing control over the situation in the country.

Although he carefully pretends that everything is under complete control," - Anatol Liabedzka told Radio Racyja:

- He wants to pretend that this is true, starting from his conversation with Putin, when he said that he gives women the opportunity to have a walk. In fact, the situation for him remains critical in all respects. People have been taking to the streets for 43 days, despite detentions, arrests and batons. And it seems that there is no reason to say that this may stop in the near future. As a minimum, this is a status quo that will last for a long time.

And, most likely, the protests will expand. We have to take into account that the economy is lagging. This means that after a while, the current protesters may be joined by those who are still sticking to "rouse" and "crisp fat". There is such a prospect, and so I think that the protests will only increase," - Anatol Liabedzka believes.
