European Parliament Appoints Debate On Situation In Belarus

The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell will make a presentation.

Another session of the European Parliament opens in Brussels today. Belarus is on the agenda as one of the topics. Tomorrow, on July 9, a debate is planned on the situation in our country. The MEPs will discuss the course of the election campaign in Belarus, and the detention of the opposition leaders and activists, according to the message on the website of the European Parliament.

Before the debate, Josep Borrell, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, will make a report on international relations and the human rights situation.

On the eve, 31 MEPs put forward an initiative to impose sanctions against Lukashenka and the Belarusian officials who violate laws, and impede the conduct of the election campaign.
