The Astravets nuclear power plant is a risk for the region, Europe and perhaps the world.

Lithuania has established the Movement against the Astravets NPP which will collect signatures in all EU countries under the petition to close the NPP and to ban the import of electricity produced at the plant to the EU. This was stated by Permanent Rapporteur of the European Parliament on Belarus Petras Auštrevičius during his working visit to Minsk, tut.by reports.

According to Auštrevičius, the Movement against the Astravets NPP has been organized by citizens of Lithuania. Its Honorary Chairman is Professor Vytautas Landsbergis.

- The NPP in Astravets raises a lot of concerns. The place for construction was chosen badly, the way the construction was carried out caused criticism and concern. The Astravets nuclear power plant is a risk for the region, Europe and possibly the whole world. We urge the civil society in Belarus to react to it as well, to join our petitions. It is important to show solidarity and achieve change for the better, not to remain blind to the problems that exist, - Auštrevičius said.
