Kantemir Balagov's "Beanpole" was previously awarded two prizes at the Festival de Cannes.

Kantemir Balagov's "Beanpole" has been nominated by Russia for an Oscar in the category "Best Foreign Language Film". This was announced by the chairman of the Russian Oscar Committee Vladimir Menshov.

The film "Beanpole" about the life of two girlfriends who survived the siege of Leningrad was awarded two prizes at the Cannes Film Festival: it received the prize of FIPRESCI (International Federation of Film Press) and the prize for best director within the framework of the program "Un Certain Regard".

The countries nominate their own films for the Oscars, and the American Film Academy selects nominees from them.
