Police Set Ambush For Belsat Journalists

The police waited for the journalists in the yard for several hours.

Police officers were waiting for Aliaksandr Liauchuk and Milana Kharytonava for several hours in the courtyard of their house, and then they made four protocols against our colleagues. Now the journalists are awaiting trial, Belsat reports.

On March 25, the Brest police officers drew up four reports against the journalists of Belsat.

As soon as the journalists left the house entrance, the officers from two district police departments at once, the Maskouski and Brestski districts, approached them and stated that an administrative process was underway regarding Liauchuk and Kharytonava. According to eyewitnesses, the police waited for the journalists in the yard for several hours.

Liauchuk and Kharytonava were accused of violating the law on mass media, the police made four reports against them under Article 22.9 of the Code on Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Belarus.

The journalists will be tried for coverage of protest against the construction of a battery plant, and for a story about the problems of the inhabitants of the Velun village.

Last year, Liauchuk and Kharytonava were tried six times. In the first months of 2019, this record has been four times already.

The total penalty was already more than $ 10 thousand.
