Optron Plant CEO Detained In Minsk

General Director of the Instrument-Making Plant Optron OJSC was detained red-handed when receiving a bribe in Minsk, tut.by reports with a reference to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The CEO was detained on Wednesday, February 13, by the employees of the department for combatting economic crimes of the Main Internal Affairs Directorate of the Minsk City Executive Committee. The amount of illegal cash remuneration amounted to 23,100 US dollars. According to current information, this is only one-fifth of the amount required by the CEO exclusively in foreign currency.

The detainee received money from a representative of a commercial organization for a favorable decision on the question of issuing documents for the purchase of the plant’s real estate. Also, instructions were given to subordinate employees of the plant to commit actions in the interests of the merchant related to the subsequent release from payment of the VAT in the amount of 380 thousand Belarusian rubles on the transaction.

At present, the materials of the check have been transferred to the management of the Investigatory Committee for the city of Minsk to resolve the issue of initiating a criminal case under Part 3 of Article 430 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus (receiving a large-scale bribe).

The sanction of this article on this corruption offense provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to 15 years with confiscation of property and deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities.
