Historian: Lukashenka Was Initially Allergic To White-Red-White Flag

Aliaksandr Kurjanovich, a researcher of modern history of Belarus, says that the heraldists, specialists from the Academy of Sciences were the first to vote for that, and then the issue was put before the deputies, Belsat informs.

According to the transcript of the Supreme Council sessions, one of them, future ruler Aliaksandr Lukashenka, was "really allergic" to the white-red-white flag, the historian says. Therefore, it is not surprising that in 1995, he organized the referendum to replace the state symbols.
