Social networks have reacted to the victory of the Armenian people.

The resignation of the Prime Minister of Armenia as a result of the protests has triggered a wave of comments in the Belarusian social networks. Serzh Sargsyan’s stepping down after 10 years of governing the country involuntarily reminds of parallels with Belarus.

We remind that on April 16, a civil disobedience action against the premiership of Sargsyan, who was also the head of the ruling party, started in Armenia.

On April 17, the leader of the protests, Nikol Pashinyan, declared the beginning of the velvet revolution. On that day, Sargsyan was elected Prime Minister at a special meeting of the National Assembly (Parliament) of Armenia.

On April 18, protesters against his appointment as prime minister laid siege to his residence in Baghramyan Street in Yerevan, law enforcers started to hold mass detentions.

On April 22, law-enforcers detained Pashinyan and two more deputies of the National Assembly. The European Union called on the authorities to release detained protesters who did not violate the law.

On April 23, Pashinyan and two other opposition members of the National Assembly were released. Sargsyan announced his resignation.
