Photo Fact: Stanislau Shushkevich Meets with the President of Ukraine

Former chairman of the Supreme Council of Belarus Stanislau Shushkevich met with the president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, Radio Svaboda reports.

The meeting was held within the framework of the Forum of the Baltic-Black Sea region. Stanislau Shushkevich represented Belarus.

It will be recalled that Stanislau Shushkevich as the Head of the Republic of Belarus signed Belavezha Accords in 1991.

The first head of an independent Belarus is the international prize winner. For example, he won the International Polish Jan Nowak-Jeziorański prize in 1997; in 2010 the Lithuanian government awarded him the title of "Commander of the Order of Vytautas the Great" for an active support of Lithuania's independence in 1991. In 1991 the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation (USA) awarded him with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
