Leanid Sudalenka Becomes Prestigious French Award Laureate

The “Liberty, Equality, Fraternity” Human Rights Prize of the French Republic is awarded annually for contributions to the protection of human rights.
The “Liberty, Equality, Fraternity” Human Rights Prize of the French Republic for 2018 was awarded to Belarusian human rights activist Leanid Sudalenka. According to Homel Viasna, the National Consultative Commission on Human Rights of France has already congratulated the laureate on the prize and invited him to the award ceremony, which will be held in the Ministry of Justice in Paris on Monday, December 10, at 11:30. The prize will be awarded by the Minister of Justice, Nicole Belloubet, and the president of the CNCDH non-governmental organization, Christine Lazerges. In commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the 20th anniversary of the Declaration on Human Rights Defenders, a meeting is also scheduled at the French Foreign Ministry. The French Embassy in Belarus also joined the congratulations to the laureate. Ambassador Didier Canesse personally invited Sudalenka to exchange views during a joint dinner.
Every year on December 10 on International Human Rights Day, the French National Consultative Commission on Human Rights awards 5 human rights organizations from around the world with the “Liberty, Equality, Fraternity” Human Rights Prize of the French Republic for their contribution to the cause of protecting human rights.
It was on this day that the UN General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The laureate so far refrained from commenting; he only stressed that he was dedicating the award to his teacher Barys Zvozski, whose name bears the Belarusian Human Rights House in Lithuania (Vilnius).
The “Liberty, Equality, Fraternity” Human Rights Prize is awarded annually by the French Republic for contribution to the protection of human rights.
The award, established in 1988, is awarded to individuals or organizations, regardless of their nationality or state borders, for a specific contribution to the protection of human rights in France and abroad.
