Mass Trial Of Independent Journalists In Minsk

Today five administrative cases are considered in the Pershamaiski District Court.

Today, on December 14, the Pershamaiski District Court of Minsk considers as many as five administrative cases against Belarusian independent journalists, the human rights center Viasna writes. All of them are tried under the notorious Article 22.9 (Part 2) of the Administrative Code, that is, for illegal production of media products.

Volha Chaichyts, Siarhei Kavaliou, Liubou Luniova, Iryna Arekhouskaya, Siarhei Krauchuk are the accused. All of them are accused of covering the meeting on Dziady authorized by the authorities and production of videos for the satellite TV channel Belsat.

Volha Chaichyts was fined 40 basic units (980 rubles) by judge Sviatlana Cherapovich. Journalist Siarhei Krauchuk was fined the same amount. His case was considered by judge Tatsiana Linnik.
