Belarus To Close Consulates-General In Gdansk, Milan

Belarus will close its Consulates-General not only in Odesa, but in Gdansk and Milan as well. The decisions to terminate the work of two more foreign missions are under preparation. Foreign Minister Uladzimir Makei informed about this, BelTA reports.

The MFA reminded that the Consulate-General in Odesa would be closed this year. The Belarusian Consulates-General in Gdansk and Milan will follow the same path. “We will terminate the work of two more foreign missions in some countries. The corresponding decisions are under preparation,” — Makei informed.

Alongside with that, he says, the issiue of opening new embassies in one of the African countriues and in Europe is being considered. “However, all this will be done for the expense of our internal resourses, not because of the increase in the number of staff of diplomatic services,” — Uladzimir Makei explained.

In total, the central apparatus of the MFA was reduced by a third, while the foreign missions were cut by 15%, as a result of the optimization.
