Konrad Pavlik: Every Second Pole's Card Is Issues In Belarus

  • 17.08.2017, 11:12

About 100 thousand Pole's Cards, half of the amount issued throughout the world, were issued for the Belarusians.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Poland to Belarus Konrad Pavlik said this to Euroradion.

"We should not let myths about the Pole's Card be generated. For Poland, the Pole's card is primarily a moral compensation for former citizens of Poland, for those people who felt themselves Poles who had a difficult life in Soviet times because they recognized themselves as Poles and openly talked about their roots. Therefore, we consider the Pole's Card to be a kind of moral compensation to those people. However, I must say that most do not use the Pole's Card, they keep it as a symbol on the shelf in the kitchen.

Most people use the Pole's Card in order to receive a free Polish visa, and young people use it to enroll in Polish universities. We have issued about one hundred thousand Poles Cards to the Belarusians, this is about half of the cards that we have issued around the world. However, according to our information, only about a thousand people left Belarus for Poland, " – Konrad Pavlik said.
