Vorsha Locals: ‘No Matter Where This Mayor Comes From – They All Bear Same Stamp On Their Faces’

What the locals think about Lukashenka's order to raise the district "from ruins and ashes".

On Tuesday, May 23 an outreach session of the presidium of the Belarusian government is being held in Vorsha, Solidarity writes.

It is planned that the ministers will arrive to the district center almost in full squad, visit the local enterprises to monitor the fulfillment of Lukashenka's instructions, which he had given during his annual message to the people and the "parliament."

First, they plan to inspect the local sweet shop "Sweet Country", which does not comply with the business plan approved at the state level.

According to the journalists, the city has been actively preparing for the arrival of "big fishes" for several weeks.

For example, local entrepreneurs, under the threat of starting administrative cases, "were kindly asked" to improve the area around the shops in the central streets of the city.

- A paper came, they asked me to come to the executive committee, they were going to draw an administrative charge against me. I had to pay for the repairs, - one of the Vorsha entrepreneurs confesses.

Also, local industrial enterprises prepared for the visit of the officials.

"One minister came, then another," - the locals say. – They made the workers paint street curbs and cut bushes, nobody cared about the manufacture. Forget work, everyone is busy with some other things now.

Most of all, the local authorities are afraid that Lukashenka himself will come to the city with an inspection, so they try to carry out the “makeover” in advance.

Also, the city residents are discussing the appointment of Leanid Penkouski as a new chairman of the Vorsha district executive committee. Penkouski was involved in a scandal the day before. The locals expect nothing good of his stay at the post in Vorsha, the same as of all the hype that has risen around the district center.

- It does not matter where this mayor comes from - they all have the same stamp on their faces. The differences between them are not particularly noticeable, the local resident says.
