Customs Officers Wait for Andrei Sannikov in Belarus

Copies of "Belarusian Amerikanka, or Elections under Dictatorship" earlier confiscated on the border are returned.

Leader of the European Belarus campaign Andrei Sannikov informs.

"The situation in Belarus is getting weirder. My books seized from my wife Iryna in November are returned. It was allegedly done for examination. The examination turned to be top secret. I am not even informed about the results to say nothing of being acquainted with. But they say there will be no more problems with transportation of books in Belarus. They even gave the word of gentleman, a customs one...", Sannikov wrote on Facebook.

Coordinator of the European Belarus Jauhen Aunahel told Charter97.org about details.

On the entrance to the border crossing I said that I was driving to take seized books. One of border guards smiled at once: "Sannikov's ones...We know, we know." I was asked to the customs building and asked me politely about my way there and a few minutes later I had books. Yet they clarified whether to package them.

The only bewilderment occurred when I asked for examination results. Customs officers said self-consciously that they had no such documents, they were in a "central archival depository". They failed to say any details. At that, the Deputy Head of customs guaranteed there would be no more problems with the book transportation across the border. When saying goodbye border guards sent their best to Iryna Khalip and wished Andrei Sannikov a safe return," the activist said.
