Record Drop In Turnover In Minsk

Residents of the capital economize on essentials.

The retail trade turnover in the Belarusian capital amounted to 823.2 million rubles in January 2017, which is 3.5% less than in January 2016. According to the Minsk Central Statistical Department, it is a record decline in the past two years.

The retail turnover of trade organizations, which accounted for 89.1% of retail turnover of the city, amounted to 733.3 million rubles (2.3% less in the comparable prices).

The capital retail turnover has been falling since 2016. In January of last year – by 0.8%, in January-April – by 0.01%, in January-May – by 0.5%, in January-June – by 0.4%, in January to July – by 0.8% , in January-August and January-September – by 1.5%, in January-October – by 1.8%, in January-November – by 2.2%, for 2016 – by 2.4%. The turnover growth was observed only in two periods: in January-February – by 1%, in January-March – by 0.2%.
