Minsk Residents Are Shocked At New Construction Near Kurapaty

A construction of a five-story office building has been started close to Kurapaty.

On the eve, the workers came to the site, put the fence, cut down the trees, made wells, brought their building materials.

The construction has not been agreed upon with the residents of the neighboring district Zialiony Luh, people are outraged and have already collected several hundred signatures against the new construction, Belsat reports.

"We are weary of it. The land has been taken for a bribe, it is clear. When we were voting, everyone was against it, no one was up for it, but as always the people have nothing to do with it, and they are not heard," – a local resident is outraged.

Is it a venal construction?

The construction company representatives said that they had all permissions and they were not going to suspend the construction. In the meanwhile, members of the Conservative Christian Party of the Belarusian People's Front, who were trying to clarify the circumstances of the case, arrived at the place.

The customer: company "Kiprrekonstruktsiya" located on Vaupshasova 22, room 22. Minsk city executive committee gave permission for this on 20.1.2017.

"An entire corruption scheme is used here as we understand that this place cannot be given just like that," – Aliaksandr Chakholsky from the CCP-BPF is sure.

Deputy Chairman of the CCP-BPF Siarhei Papkou called the Ministry of Culture and asked if the construction was authorized by the Ministry of Construction. The answer was – no, it wasn't authorized by the Ministry.

Members of the CCP-BPF note that the construction of the office center is another attack of the authorities on the national memorial.

Politicians urge people to protect Kurapaty and to stop the construction. They invite all those who are not indifferent to come to the construction site today.
