Riot near Svetlahorsk: Unique Footage

Independent journalists visited a spontaneous rally.

Yakimova Sloboda village, near Svetlahorsk held a spontaneous rally against the construction of the bleached pulp plant. Larysa Shchyrakova, correspondent of the Gomelskaya Vesna, was there.

This November 7 the plant has started operating in the test mode. Dwellers of the village and the city feel chlorine in the air. People complain of difficulties with breathing, allergies; they are afraid to go outdoors. Closed windows are not the way out, anyway.

Residents of the village are in fog and despair, they are concerned about their own health, their children and grandchildren. During the spontaneous rally it was decided to collect signatures to make the operation of the plant more environment-friendly.
