Will the Patriot Case Be Closed Until the End of the Autumn?

The authorities will not bare responsibility for their mistakes.

The poet and one of the first Belarusian political prisoners Slavamir Adamovich told about it Radio Racyja.

Not long ago the chairman of the Investigative Committee Ivan Naskevich said that "until the end of the fall the Patriot case will be closed." Can it be true?

- It is hard to say whether the authorities are ready to do it, but, I think, there was the ground for the regime to commit other violence against patriots, Slavamir Adamovich believes.

- Do you think the worst scenario can occur?

- Yes. In any case, there will be sentences delivered on various grounds. It can be stated that people have already served some period of sentence. But there will be no excuses for wrongful actions and no material compensation for stolen months of life.

It will be recalled that detentions began after Lukashenka's statement on this March 21 that "dozens of militants" who "trained in armed camps" were detained in Belarus. Within a few days it became known about 35 detainees. At first it was reported that the matter was about "preparation mass riots" (Part 3, article 233 of the Criminal Code), later there was an accusation of "creation of an illegal armed group and involvement in it" (art.287 CC).

Gradually, the defendants in the "Patriot case" were released under recognizance not to leave, and in June the case was referred to the Investigative Committee of Belarus.
