Belarusians Enter Foreign Universities To Skip Army Service

About 25 thousand Belarusians study in the higher educational establishments in Russia.

Why are the Belarusian applicants-for-entry so interested in the Russian universities? Teacher from Vorsha Valiantsina Ihnatsenka, who had taught hundreds of pupils, thinks that the main reason why Belarusians tend to choose Russian universities is an opportunity not to serve in the army, which appeared in the epicenter of a scandal once again.

— As for the quality of education, it is equally low here and in Russia. If they all go to Russia, this is definitely a cover, they don’t want to serve in the army. Here, they are hunted down by police, police officers come to their places, threaten, there were even arrests, — Valiantsina Ihnatsenka told Radio Racyja.

Valiantsina Ihnatsenka does not consider the Russian education to be much better than the Belarusian one. In her opinion, the level of a number of Russian universities, which Belarusians enter, is no higher than that of domestic ones. An opportunity not to serve in the army plays the key part when Belarusians choose to enter universities of the Russian Federation.
