The Nuclear power plant turns into " a millstone around floater's neck " for the authorities.

The Academy of Sciences believes that new nuclear power plants will be built in Belarus in 2030.

Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences Uladzimir Husakou said at a press conference in Minsk that a large number of nuclear power plants can be built on the territory of Belarus in the future."

"We believe that this is not the last nuclear power plant in Belarus. Maybe I'm getting ahead, but we suppose that more nuclear power plants will be in the making, possibly in 2030," – Husakou said.

Activist of the anti-nuclear campaign from Varniany Mikalai Ulasevich expressed doubts in his interview to Radio Racyja about the advantages of building even one nuclear power plant in Belarus.

"It is difficult to say whether they are able to "chew it over" or to "swallow" the station, which is being built. As it this is, so to speak, like a stone around the neck of a drowned man. The economy is collapsing, the construction site is a mess", – Ulasevich says.

A series of accidents have occurred at the Belarusian nuclear power plant construction site.

The reactor vessel had to be replaced after one of the incidents, but during transportation the second reactor vessel was hooked by a railway post.

After the media brought these incidents to light, the information on the construction has become more closed.

"The facts that have become known to the public, have made the access to information even harder. In particular, builders are not allowed to pass with the phones, which have a video camera," – Mikalai Ulasevich says.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is built with the participation of Russia near Astravets in Hrodna region. The commissioning of the first unit is scheduled for 2019, of the second one – for 2020.
