Svetlana Alexievich Becomes Honorary Member Of BAJ

The council of the Belarusian Association of Journalists has taken the corresponding decision on September 9.

“Svetlana Alexievich has always been a very close person for the Belarusian Association of Journalists. BAJ has always supported, cared and rejoiced Svetlana’s victories, while the writer, in her turn, closely watched the situation in the Belarusian media sector,” - BAJ Spokesman Barys Haretski has said.

The idea to invite the Literature Nobel Prize winner as an honorary member of the journalistic association emerged last year, the website baj.by informs.

"She agreed, so finally, we can welcome her and say we are very proud of this friendship," - Barys Haretski has added.

Apart from Svetlana Alexievich, the honorary members of the public association "Belarusian Association of Journalists" are Belarusian poet Siarhei Zakonnikau, Russian writer and human rights activist Aleksei Simonov, and American journalist Clay Gasvel.
