Pensioners’ Vegetable Patches Razed To Ground To Put Things In Order

Pensioners lost their vegetable gardens in Polatsk. In such a manner the utility services decided to “put things in order.”

Polatsk residents, mostly pensioners, used to grow herbs, vegetables and root crops on a small plot of land within a hundred meters from their apartment building. But one fine day some utility vehicles arrived there, and within 10 minutes the vegetable gardens were razed to the ground, ONT reports.

The land surveying office assures that they didn’t exceed the authority. And explains: the land does not belong to the citizens, it’s the city communal services’ property. According to the officials, the residential area inhabitants had the opportunity to legalize their vegetable gardens, and they were warned about restoring the order in early summer.

One of the vegetable garden owners is discontented with the officials’ arguments, she decided to strive for returning of the plot and damages for destroyed plants. The officials, in turn, intend to continue the fight against land seizures.
