Passports Checked At Russian Border With Belarus

Eyewitnesses talk of a big queue and reinforced border controls.

In recent years, drivers have not had any problems crossing the border between Belarus and Russia. As a rule, there has not been any particular control, the documents have not been required. So today, many people started to worry when they had to present their passports queueing at the border, wondering what had caused the strengthening of control.

– There is a queue on the border of Belarus and Russia. The border guards check documents on the other side, examining passport. Both in passenger cars and trucks. Every single passenger has to produce his documents. No one seems to be stopped, or turned back. But people have not expected that, so there are delays, – onliner.by reports the words of the driver who traveled to Russia on the M1 today.

According to an eyewitness, he has been checked even twice.

– A border guard looked at my passport, let me pass. Another one apparently did not notice it and started to check it again. All of this, of course, does not speed up the passage of the border. We had to wait for some time, – an eyewitness said.

Spokesman for the State Border Committee of Belarus Aliaksandr Tsishchanka said that the passport control was carried out only on the Russian side.

This may happen due to the lack of agreement on the conditions of work of carriers between Poland and Russia. At this point the parties put forward the conditions, demanding carriers to leave the territory of another country before February 15.
