Defense Ministry Explained Why Recruits Took Oath To USSR In Barysau

A ceremony of taking the oath took place in the central square of Barysau on Saturday.
Before taking the oath to Belarus, which was attended by about 300 recruits, young men dressed in Soviet form took a symbolic oath to the USSR, nn.by informs.
The initiator of the performance – the Commander of the North-Western Operational Command Aliaksandr Volfovich, a native of Kazan, a graduate of the Moscow Higher Military School and the Military Academy of the General Staff of Russia.
" There was a task to demonstrate the continuity of generations during the ceremony of taking the oath. Today, as if having glanced in the legendary past for a moment, we have shown how our great-granparents and grandparents took the oath back in 1918 and 1941, back in the Soviet Union. And following them, observing the succession of generations of defenders of our Fatherland, our soldiers also took a solemn oath of allegiance to our country – the Republic of Belarus. I think that this event become a good tradition. Having affixed a handwritten signature to the words of the oath, the young warriors of the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army defended the independence of the young Soviet state under difficult conditions. It is with these words our fathers and grandfathers were going into battle against the fascist invaders during the Great Patriotic War. Having not violated the oath, our countrymen stepped into immortality in the distant mountains of Afghanistan," – Volfovich said.
The journalists asked chief of the main ideological department of the Ministry of Defense Uladzimir Makarau, why all that was necessary.
"I can assure you that the oath of allegiance to the people of Belarus was adopted in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Belarus, they swore the oath in Belarusian and in Russian, – Makarau said. – And the reconstruction of the soldier military oath ritual depicting different periods of the XX century was demonstrated in front of the guests and the new reinforcements. The reconstruction was especially performed for guests of the festival, it was emphasized that our fathers and grandfathers went into battle against the Nazi invaders in World War II."
Makarov could not explain what ideological benefit of the oath to the USSR was, but he stressed another thing.
"No one should doubt that the independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty of Belarus will be assured by our whole national security system, including the armed forces," – the Ministry of Defense ideologist summed up.
