Former Trade Minister Chakanau Unexpectedly Got Out Of Detention Center

Former Trade Minister Valiantsin Chakanau, who was suspected of abuse of power, has been released from pre-trial detention center.

"The criminal investigation is in its final stage. The measure of restraint for the suspect

was changed to the one that does not involve deprivation of liberty," – the official representative of the Investigative Committee Julia Hancharova said to tut.by.

As unofficial sources informed, the former Trade Minister was released on bail.

Let us remind, that Valiantsin Charkasau was detained in December, 2015. A criminal case under part 3 of Article 426 of the Criminal Code of Belarus (abuse of power or official authority) was initiated against him. Sanctions under this Article involve imprisonment for the term from 3 to 10 years with or without confiscation of property.

Valiantsin Charkasau was the head of the Trade Ministry from 2009.
