In the evening of November 26, the acting head of Baranavichy city traffic police department knocked down and killed a pedestrian at the highway that runs through the village Dzerava in Liahavichy district.

The accident occurred around 20.30. At that moment, the traffic police inspectors stopped a car driven by a driver without his driving license. While they were drawing up a protocol, a 36-year-old female passenger, a resident of Slutsk, Minsk region, came out of the car to find out, why the car had been stopped. When she was crossing the road, she got hit by a car. According to some data, the pedestrian knockdown was made on a pedestrian crossing, to other data – near it.

According to tut.by, the car, which knocked down the woman, was driven by acting head of Baranavichy city traffic police department Andrei Vaukavytsky. The man was not on-the-job, driving his personal car and in civilian clothes. He was very drunk: the carried out examination showed that his blood contained about 3 per mille of alcohol.

The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case, the driver was taken into custody. If the drunk driver’s guilt is proved out, he will face up to 7 years in prison. The major will be dismissed from the internal affairs bodies.

The information about the police officer’s detention has been confirmed by a source in law enforcement agencies.

Friends of the deceased informed that the woman has left two minor children: her son is 6 years old, her daughter is sixteen.
