Bohdan Yaremenko: Lukashenka's punitive system needs money

  • 29.09.2015, 7:40

Belarus remains a dictatorial state and military and political ally of Russia.

Bohdan Yaremenko, Ukraine's diplomat and Chairperson of the Board of Maidan of Foreign Affairs Foundation, writes on Facebook.

Reuters informs that in the near future the EU is to discuss and likely to decide lifting sanctions on Belarus, he reminds. - Like, Lukashenka released all political prisoners and proposed Minsk as the ground for Russia-Ukraine negotiations. Bingo! He waves the West and he immediately "should be encouraged".

There's a question arises: is such way of thinking a blindness or a short-term attitude? Or is it behavior of a "shy thief"?

Everybody understands that Belarus remains a military and political ally of Russia. Everybody knows that Belarus has no law amended that could promote democracy or at least somehow weaken the dictatorship".

Bohdan Yaremenko stresses that our country has had no exemptions to political opponents, mass media, and civil society. There are no changes in legitimacy of the Belarusian authority.

"Is the release of some prisoners an achievement? he asks. - Is Lukashenka a kitten to encourage and stroke in order to make him do his business in a little box, not in a corner?

There should be no political prisoners at all. I see no sense in praising Lukashenka, who just has recognized his crimes. Yes, he's recognized. That's all. The release of political prisoners does not change the political regime. Nothing has changed to guarantee no other political prisoners a few hours later.

Lukashenka needs money. Russia is not able to grant it. Should the wish of the last dictator in Europe to have an access to the EU financial resources create a desire of forward-looking and wise politicians to grant it without any Lukashenka's obligations?

Well, and again, why shouldn't we think about Lukashenka's intentions? Does he need it for social needs? Even if you pose yourself as naive and pretend that believe in this crazy talk, money decumulation is not the best way to spend it. But the situation is different! Lukashenka will spend it for his regime strengthening."

The diplomat notes if any social benefits occur a giant punitive apparatus will first receive them, i.e. for those most involved in human rights violations, tortures, politically motivated disappearances and mysterious deaths.

"These European" pragmatists "who want to" encourage various barbarians, are dangerous, because Putin will be the next to be "encouraged", who slightly speeds down destruction and killing rates of Ukraine, to create the illusion of implementation of the Minsk arrangements Bohdan Yaremenko writes. - European proponents of "real policy" will insist on lifting of sanctions on Russia, because Putin kills two Ukrainians once a week.

There are no doubts that Lukashenka and Putin are not fluffy kittens, which could be stroked for a proper understanding of sanitation rules in a city apartment. They are two absolute big cats (not to use "muzzle"), who can steal food and do their business wherever they want.

So, are European "pragmatics" really blind or short-sighted?"
