Russian government: Airbase in Baranavichy will strengthen our military presence in region

The issue on a Russian airbase in Belarus will be considered on Wednesday at a meeting of the Russian cabinet of ministers.

As Interfax news agency learnt from the agenda, an agreement on setting up a Russian airbase in Belarus will ensure joint protection of the external airspace border of the “union state” and creation of the common regional aid defence system of the Russian Federation and Belarus.

“The agreement will strengthen Russia's long-term military presence in the region and will enhance its security,” the agenda says.

The agenda also includes two items relating to Russian-Belarusian relations.
