Military exercises near NATO borders

Belarus-Russia exercises "Union Shield -2015" start today.

Russian Defence Ministry says.

"More than 8 thousand soldiers, 400 weapons units and equipment, about 80 war-planes and helicopters will be involved. Methods and forms of joint work of command and control organizations, training and conduct of the defence fast-moving mounted warfare on a broad front in fluid environment will be exercised", the statement says.

There will be two stages of maneuvers in Leningrad and Pskov regions. Process-oriented training of military administration will be held on Russian training areas. Joint actions of Belarusian and Russian fighting troops within regional force grouping are taken as a basis of tactical events.

Exercises will be over on September 16.
