Exchange offices in regions: No foreign cash. We sell what we buy

Dollars and euros continue to disappear in Belarusian regions, especially in remote towns.

Employees of the main department of Belarusbank in Luninets (Brest region) say that they didn't receive dollars from the bank yesterday and don't have foreign cash for sale, Euroradio reports.

“We sell what we buy. A crowd of people is standing here, and I cannot guarantee that we will have foreign cash when you come. Some pay utility bills, but some want to buy dollars. We don't have money so far, maybe it will arrive by 16:00,” a clerk at an exchange office in Luninets said.

Some state-owned banks in Homel have neither dollars nor euros. Customers can buy only the foreign currency that was sold to the bank by others.

A Belarusbank office in Baranavichy in Stockerau Baulvard says it has enough dollars, but many people exchange rubles for foreign currency. The same situation is observed in Hrodna and Polatsk.

“There's a long queue, and most people buy dollars,” a Belarusbank office in Hrodna says.
