The Council of the Belarusian People's Republic (BPR) calls on official Minsk to “further normalise the political situation in the country”.

It is said in a statement released on August 24, BelaPAN reports.

The BPR Council welcomes the release of political prisoners and “calls on the authorities to make further steps to normalise the political situation in the country.” According to the Council, the former political prisoners, released recently and earlier, must be rehabilitated legally; conditions for holding “fully free fair elections” must be created; all bodies of the state and local authorities must be re-elected; all democratic rights and freedoms, also those enshrined in the current legislation, must be guaranteed for citizens.

The BPR Council calls on the international community, including the EU and the US, to “continue decisively demand the democratisation in Belarus and provide all possible assistance to Belarus to help the transition to a democratic form of government”.
