US calls to restore rights of released Belarusian political prisoners

The Unites States welcomes the release of former presidential candidate Mikalai Statkevich and five other political prisoners.

It is said in a statement released by the US Department of State.

“The release of these six political prisoners is a positive development for the people of Belarus and an important step toward normalizing relations with the United States. We reiterate our call for the Government of Belarus to restore the political rights of these six and other former political prisoners,” spokesman for the State Department John Kirby said.
