NKVD employees were observed at the events devoted to official "Independence Day".

They participated in dramatized show in the Freedom Sqr. in Minsk, Belsat TV channel reports.

It should be reminded that on May 9 Minister Ihar Shunevich was standing in a dark-blue soldier's blouse with a stiff collar, shoulder-belt, riding breeches with turquoise stripes tucked into boots, and a blue peaked cap with a turquoise band. The uniform was introduced in 1943 for NKVD. Media critisized the minister for wearing it.

NKVD was the chief performer of mass political repressions in 1930s. Many citizens of the USSR, the prisoners in Gulag camps or those sentenced to death, were judged by special NKVD troikas. NKVD practiced deportations on account of ethnic descent as well.
