The story about the interception of two Russian Tu-95 bombers near the California coast of the US Independence Day has again appeared in the media.

The US Congress considers the incident to be an act of aggression and at attempt to return to Cold War mentality. Rep. Adam Kinzinger said it to CNN, Ukrinform reports.

“If you ever have any doubt whether the Cold War is back on, I mean these are the kind of maneuvers that show that it is,” The Hill quotes Kinzinger, a former Air Force pilot, as saying.

He stressed that such behaviour of Russian bombers able to carry nuclear weapons was a reestablishment of Cold War principles. Unlike decades ago, when both side showed force, only Russia uses such methods now, he added.

Two Russian strategic bombers Tu-95 flew within tens kilometers of the California coast on the US Independence Day. One of the Russian pilots sent greetings to the Americans on an emergency frequency. The American military regarded the incident as a veiled threat. Two F-15 fighters intercepted the Russian aircraft.
