Six Ukrainians killed in bus accident in Poland

22 injured passengers are currently being treated in hospitals near the crash scene and in Warsaw.

A bus accident near the eastern Polish town of Garwolin at 06:00 on Thursday took lives of six Ukrainian citizens, injuring another 22, according to Andriy Deschytsya who reported to the Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk.

Three persons died at the scene, another three passengers’ lives could not be saved when they had been brought to the hospital, UNIAN reports.

22 injured passengers are currently being treated in hospitals near the crash scene and in Warsaw. Another 22 injured citizens who do not need hospital treatment are now staying at the town near close to the place where the accident occurred. They have been offered psychologists’ assistance. Ukraine’s Consul is also at the scene providing consulate and legal assistance.

Andriy Deschytsya noted that Polish emergency services were very effective in providing first aid, transporting the injured passengers to the hospitals by helicopters and emergency vehicles. The Ukraininan prime minister gave urgent instructions regarding assistance to the injured Ukrainians, ordering to find out all possible ways of providing necessary aid in cooperation with the Polish partners.

According to Deschytsya, the bus got into an accident near Garwolin, between Liublin and Warsaw.

Polish media earlier reported that the bus slid into oncoming traffic under unclear circumstances, then sliding into a ditch and hitting a tree.
