Former KGB chief Sukharenka dismissed as ambassador to Armenia

Aliaksandr Lukashenka has appointed new ambassadors of Belarus to Azerbaijan, Armenia, the Czech Republic and Cuba.

Ihar Nazaruk is appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Armenia. He replaced Stsiapan Sukharenka, who had headed the KGB from 2005 to 2008.

The official is known for exposing a “plot” of the opposition ahead of the 2006 presidential elections. The security services accused the dictator's opponents of an attempt to poison water in Minsk's water supply system with the help of “dead rats”.
