Patriarch Kirill’s spokesperson: Congratulations on 1st day of war to all

The spokesperson of the head of the Russian Orthodox Church has made a controversial entry on his Facebook page.

“Today at 4 a.m. the Patriarch was attending the commemorative event at the Brest Hero Fortress Memorial. It is a special, sacred place. Congratulations on the first day of the war to everyone,” Alexander Volkov wrote on Facebook.

It looked as if the spokesperson of the Russian Orthodox Church's Patriarch congratulated his readers on the day when the most devastating conflict in the history of the humankind started, “Nasha Niva” writes.

However soon after in comments people started to express their indignation over the wording, and Alexander wrote one more post, stating that “congratulations on the first day of war to everyone” there was really no congratulatory meaning, and besides, his page does not reflect the official position of the Russian Orthodox Church.
