The representative of Belarus at the Eastern Partnership summit in Riga does not want to talk to journalists.

Leaders of the European Union and partner countries have an opportunity to talk to the press before the beginning and say what they expect from the summit.

Belarus' representative Uladzimir Makei ignored the opportunity. He greeted the summit organisers and passed by journalists, Radio Svaboda reports.

He is expected to give a press conference for Belarusian journalists accredited at the summit.

EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini called the summit a “new era in our partnership”.

“I think this is going to be a good day for the European Union and for each of the six partners. We get to the stage of the day-to-day normal working relationship between partners. It might not be sensational, but it is beneficial,” she said before the meeting.

Prime minister of Finland Alexander Stubb said the issues of visa liberalisation and economic cooperation were on the agenda. He added that Ukraine and Georgia were close to the visa-free regime.
